Illicit Green is the Black Opium flanker for people who love the famous coffee-vanilla signature but want it brighter, juicier and a little less heavy. Created in 2022 by master perfumer Nathalie Lorson with Olivier Cresp — and, unusually, in collaboration with Parisian mixologist Margot Lecarpentier — it reimagines Black Opium as an energising green "mocktail" rather than a late-night espresso. It opens crisp and tangy with green mandarin, pear and fig leaf — noticeably fresher and greener than the original's sweet rush. The heart turns soft and fruity as creamy fig joins jasmine and a lighter touch of orange blossom. Underneath sits the unmistakable Black Opium base: roasted coffee, Madagascan bourbon vanilla and patchouli, here reading like sweet fig jam stirred into a smooth latte. Many wearers rate it above the original — the lighter florals let the coffee and vanilla shine, and the result is smooth, creamy and easy to wear from day into evening, with the strength you'd expect from the line.
